Athlete guide

First competition pathway

The beginner guide is transferred as an international athlete checklist: learn the discipline boundary, choose a format, read the event regulation and compete under official protocols.

Use this checklist as the internal ISF starter route for first competitions.

Choose the format

  • Classic suits maximum-strength one-repetition performance.
  • Multirep suits strength endurance and pace control.
  • Two-event total checks balanced pull-up and dip performance.
  • One discipline can be a safer first start.

Know your category

  • Sex category.
  • Age category.
  • Bodyweight category.
  • Division where the event regulation uses one.

Start level

ISF recommends beginning with city, club or regional starts to learn registration, weigh-in, attempts, judge commands and platform responsibility.

Read the regulation

  • Date, place and event status.
  • Disciplines and categories.
  • Schedule, weigh-in and flights.
  • Equipment, entry fees, deadlines, appeals and organizer contacts.

Competition checklist

  • Learn what counts as a valid lift.
  • Plan attempts: secure opener, working second attempt and optional risk third attempt.
  • Do not experiment with food or logistics on competition day.
  • Arrive early for weigh-in and flight timing.

After the event

  • Check the protocol for place, result, rank completion and records.
  • Use official protocols for certificates and verified athlete history.
  • Plan the next season through technique, statistics and higher-status events.
